FAQ

Is RACINES a Montessori store?

RACINES is inspired by Montessori principles, but it is not limited to a strict methodology.

We believe in autonomy and independence, real materials, freedom of movement, and respect for each child’s natural development. Our products support these values, while remaining adaptable to different family rhythms, routines, and parenting styles.

We think you'll find something you like at RACINES, whether you are applying the Montessori method or not.

How do I choose the right products for my child’s age?

Rather than focusing strictly on age, we encourage parents to observe their child’s interests, abilities, and readiness.

Each product includes age guidelines to help orient your choice, but every child develops at their own pace. Many of our items are designed to grow with your child from early discovery to more complex, independent use.

If you're unsure, outdoor play, open-ended play, and real life tools tend to offer the longest lifespan.

What if my child is ahead or behind typical milestones?

Development is beautifully non-linear and different for every child.

Some children focus early on movement, others on language, others on fine motor skills. Our collection is intentionally broad, allowing families to follow their child’s natural curiosity rather than a fixed timeline.

Why do you prioritize materials like wood, glass, stainless steel and cotton?

We choose materials that are durable and safe.

Wood, glass, stainless steel, and natural fibres like cotton offer rich sensory feedback, age gracefully, and avoid unnecessary coatings and additives. They are also designed to last, reducing waste and encouraging thoughtful consumption.

Is glass really safe for toddlers?

In Montessori-inspired homes, children are invited to use real objects from an early age. Many families introduce small glassware once their child shows readiness for calm, seated meals and growing independence.

Glass is breakable, which is precisely its value. It requires care, attention, respect for objects and it teaches cause and effect. When a child drinks from a real glass or eats from a real plate, they are trusted to participate in everyday family life.

Tempered glass is particularly well suited for this learning. It is more resistant than ordinary glass, withstands daily use, and breaks into dull fragments rather than sharp shards. Used with supervision, it allows toddlers to practice independence.

Spills and occasional breakage will occur. They are part of learning.

What happens if something breaks?

Spills and occasional breakage will occur. They are part of learning.

If something breaks, we recommend you remove your child from the area, clean up thoroughly, and continue without stress, blame or shame. There is no need to make it a big event.

These moments often become valuable lessons in responsibility and care. When they are ready, you could also choose to involve your child in the cleaning process.

How durable are your products for everyday life?

Our products are designed for daily use, not display.

From sturdy wooden tools and tempered glass to stainless steel lunchware and outdoor gear, every item is selected for durability, practicality, and long-term value. They are meant to be used and integrated into real family life.

How do I care for my new products?

Care instructions are simple and included with each product or detailed on their product page.

In general:

• Glass and stainless steel are dishwasher safe.
• Wooden items benefit from gentle hand washing and air drying.
• Natural oils can occasionally be applied to wooden products to preserve their finish.

Proper care ensures longevity and keeps each item beautiful over time.
