Tempered glass sized for small hands and everyday family life.
Simple, durable, and intentionally proportioned, the Provence glass is well suited to toddlers learning to drink from an open cup. Its compact shape and balanced weight support controlled movements.
Made in France from tempered glass, Provence glasses are designed for daily use at the family table. Available in four sizes, they progress naturally alongside the child without changing materials or style.
Why we chose it
- Made from tempered glass, more resistant than ordinary glass (will break into dull fragments, not sharp shards).
- Small proportions make it manageable for small hands.
- Stackable for simple storage.
- Dishwasher and microwave safe.

A note on glass and toddlers
In Montessori-inspired homes, children are often offered real materials from an early age. Glass has weight, requires care, and helps children understand cause and effect through everyday experience.
Tempered glass is more resistant than ordinary glass, but like all real materials, it can still break. We recommend introducing open glasses gradually and with supervision.
Spills and occasional breakage are part of learning. Over time, children develop coordination, awareness, and confidence through everyday practice.
Tips for introducing open cup drinking
- Start early. Many children can begin exploring an open cup around 6 months with assistance and very small amounts of water.
- Start with minimal liquid. Using only a small amount helps reduce spills and allows the child to focus on the movement itself.
- Use real materials: Glass or ceramic cups are preferred as they allow the child to feel the weight of the water and understand the consequence of knocking it over.
- Model the behavior. Slowly demonstrate how to lift the cup with two hands, take a sip, and set it down gently on the table.
- Embrace the mess. Spills are part of the learning process. Keep a towel nearby and remain calm when there are spills. This helps build your child's confidence. You can also model cleaning up and involve your toddler in the cleanup.
